Ultrasonic welding fuses synthetic fabrics using high-frequency vibration — creating clean, strong, thread-free seams that are lighter, more flexible, and aesthetically superior to traditional stitching.

Vibration that fuses fabric at a molecular level

The machine converts electrical energy into ultrasonic vibrations 35 kHz. These vibrations are transferred through a welding horn (sonotrode) onto the fabric. The vibration creates heat only at the seam area, melting the synthetic fibres so they fuse together. As the material cools, it forms a strong, clean, and durable bond—without the need for thread, needles, or adhesives.

Ultrasonic bonding FAQ

Ultrasonic welding works on fabrics with a synthetic content of 65% or more — including nylon, polyester, spandex blends, TPU laminates, and non-wovens. It does not work effectively on natural fibres like cotton, wool, or silk, as these do not melt when vibrated.

Yes, when an ultrasonic weld is combined with a high-performance reinforced taping, the resulting seam can match or exceed the strength of traditional stitched seams on compatible fabrics. While a standalone ultrasonic seam provides a clean, raw edge, adding the reinforced tape ensures maximum tensile strength, durability, and a completely waterproof finish. We validate this combined bond strength through destructive pull testing and wash cycle performance trials before signing off on any production process

Yes. Inconsistent welds are usually caused by amplitude settings, horn wear, fabric tension variation, or speed mismatches. We can diagnose and correct these issues on-site or remotely, and retrain operators to maintain consistency in production.

Yes. For maximum waterproofing performance, ultrasonic-welded seams can additionally be seam-sealed with thermoplastic tape. This hybrid approach is used in high-specification outerwear and specialist technical garments.
