Jacket and Technical Outerwear Manufacturer in Sri Lanka
Ardmel develops and manufactures waterproof jackets, rainwear, ski wear and insulated outerwear at our facility in the Biyagama Export Processing Zone. Ardmel built its first seam sealing machine, the MK-1, in 1979, and we still build the machines and produce the tapes we use. That lets us take a jacket from tech pack to bulk with the sealing process designed around your fabric.
Every seam sealed for hardshells and rainwear, or only the exposed seams for softshells and casual jackets.
Single-layer, two-layer and three-layer tapes matched to PU-coated fabrics and 2L, 2.5L and 3L laminates.
Adhesive bonding for stitch-free baffles on insulated jackets, and for cuffs, hoods and storm flaps.
Thread-free welded seams on fleece and synthetic shells, taped over where water resistance is needed.
Which Seam Construction Suits Your Jacket?
The construction depends on how much weather the garment has to keep out. These are the starting points we use, confirmed by testing on your fabric:
| Garment | Seam construction | What we test |
|---|---|---|
| Hardshell and ski jackets | Fully taped seams with three-layer tape | Hydrostatic head and wash durability |
| Rain jackets and waterproof pants | Fully taped seams with single-layer or two-layer tape | Hydrostatic head and peel strength |
| Softshells and windbreakers | Critically taped or ultrasonic-welded seams | Peel strength and wash durability |
| Down and insulated jackets | Bonded baffles and taped outer seams | Peel strength and wash durability |
| Fashion coats and parkas | Critically taped seams and bonded trims | Peel strength and appearance after washing |
From Tech Pack to Bulk: How We Build Waterproof Outerwear
Fabric Assessment
We check coating, laminate type and water resistance, and confirm which tapes will bond to your fabric.
Tape and Construction Plan
We choose fully or critically taped seams, tape width and tape type for each seam, including curves and cross seams.
Sampling and Testing
Sealed samples are tested for hydrostatic head, peel strength and wash durability, and adjusted until they pass your standard.
Bulk Production
Jackets are made and sealed in our Sri Lanka facility, with settings recorded in a production SOP.
In-Line Checks
In bulk, seam sealing settings are checked every two hours, with hydrostatic tests on sealed seams and peel tests on the tape.
Outerwear Manufacturing FAQs
Are you a jacket manufacturer in Sri Lanka?
Yes. Ardmel develops and manufactures waterproof jackets, rainwear, ski wear and insulated outerwear in Sri Lanka, sealed on machines we build with tapes we produce.
Do you make seam-sealed rainwear?
Yes. Rain jackets and waterproof pants are fully taped with tape matched to the fabric’s coating, then tested for hydrostatic head before bulk.
What is the difference between fully taped and critically taped jackets?
A fully taped jacket has every seam sealed, for maximum waterproofing. A critically taped jacket has only the exposed seams sealed, such as the shoulders, hood and yoke, which suits softshells and casual outerwear.
Our jackets leak at the seams. Can you help?
Yes. We check the three likely causes, the tape, the fabric coating and the machine settings, then correct the process and confirm the fix with hydrostatic testing.
Do you supply seam sealing tapes and machines to outerwear factories?
Yes. Ardmel produces seam sealing tapes and builds seam sealing machines, available through ardmel.com, and we set them up and train your team on your own lines.
