Technical Textile Bonding and Seam Sealing for Industrial Products
Technical textiles are made for a job: to hold air, keep out water, carry a load or protect a person. Ardmel bonds, welds and seals these fabrics for makers of automotive, outdoor, marine, footwear and industrial products, using the same machines, adhesives and tapes we build and produce for apparel. We develop the process on your fabric, test it and set it up for production, with our machines, tapes and training.
Tape sealing with hot air or heated top and bottom rollers, for airtight and waterproof seams on coated fabrics.
Side-to-side welds on synthetic fabrics and nonwovens, with no thread or needle holes.
PUR and Engineered Adhesives
PUR and ether-based adhesives chosen for UV, saltwater and hydrolysis resistance.
Lamination and Slitting
Fabric lamination and precision slitting of adhesives and fabrics at Ardmel Manufacturing.
Technical Textile Applications We Bond and Seal
Each application has its own fabric, load and environment. These are the products we bond and seal, and the processes we use:
| Industry | Typical products | What we apply |
|---|---|---|
| Automotive textiles | Seat covers, car interiors and upholstery | PUR adhesive lamination and bonding |
| Ballooning | Hot air balloon envelopes | Seam sealing |
| Watersports | Kite bladders and inflatable structures | Ultrasonic welding with heated roller seam sealing |
| Outdoor equipment | Tents, awnings, backpacks and car covers | Seam sealing tapes and bonded panels |
| Footwear | Uppers, linings and waterproof booties | Seam sealing and adhesive bonding |
| Marine | Boat covers and inflatables | Seam sealing tapes and bonded panels |
| Medical and hygiene | Hygiene products and medical textile parts | Ultrasonic welding and laser cutting |
How We Develop a Technical Textile Bonding Process
Application Review
We look at the product, the fabric and what the seam has to withstand: air pressure, water, UV, salt, load or repeated flexing.
Adhesive and Tape Selection
We choose the adhesive or tape chemistry, and customize it where your conditions need it.
Process Trials
We trial the weld, bond or seal on your fabric at our Sri Lanka facility and set temperature, pressure and speed.
Testing
Samples are tested for peel strength, seam strength and water resistance.
Production Setup
We set up the machines, write the SOP and train your team for production.
Technical Textiles FAQs
What are technical textiles?
Technical textiles are fabrics made for performance rather than appearance. They are used in products such as car interiors, tents, kites, balloons, footwear, medical products and protective equipment.
Can you seal seams airtight for inflatables?
Yes. For surfing kite bladders we combine ultrasonic side-to-side welding with heated top and bottom roller seam sealing, for smooth, flat, leak-resistant seams.
Which adhesives do you use for outdoor and marine products?
Ether-based and specialist adhesives chosen for durability, UV resistance, saltwater exposure and hydrolysis resistance, customized to your fabric.
Do you only work with apparel companies?
No. We work with makers of automotive, outdoor, marine, footwear, medical and industrial products, as well as apparel brands and factories.
Can you supply the machines and tapes for our plant?
Yes. Ardmel builds seam sealing, ultrasonic and bonding machines and produces tapes and adhesives, available through ardmel.com, and we set them up and train your operators.
