Our History & Milestones

For more than five decades, Ardmel has been at the forefront of developing advanced machinery and bonding technologies for the global apparel and technical textile industries. Through continuous innovation and engineering excellence, Ardmel has evolved into a trusted solutions provider for manufacturers around the world.

Ardmel was founded in 1973 in Glenrothes, Scotland (UK) as a company specializing in the design and manufacture of special-purpose automated machinery. The company initially focused on developing high-precision equipment for industrial applications.

The founder, Rube Fernando, originally from Sri Lanka, moved to the United Kingdom and later established Ardmel with a vision of creating innovative manufacturing technologies that would transform industrial production processes.

1973 : Founded

Established for automated machinery, focusing on precision engineering and advanced industrial manufacturing.

Late 1970s : Seam Innovation

Introduced MK-1 seam sealing machine, improving waterproofing, garment durability, and production efficiency.

1980s – 1990s : Tech Expansion

Expanded seam sealing technology across apparel, automotive textiles, outdoor gear, and industrial applications.

1989 : Sri Lanka

Established technical garment manufacturing in Sri Lanka, supporting performance apparel and global market.

2005 : Lanka Manufacturing

Founded Ardmel Manufacturing Sri Lanka, producing seam tapes, adhesives, and bonding solutions.

2015 : Bonding Expansion

Expanded into tapes, adhesives, ultrasonic systems, bonding presses, laydown machines, and laser cutting.
