For Know Before Starting Your Project
Have questions about making your garments 100% waterproof and durable? We’ve answered the most common queries about our seam sealing solutions and process.
Working with Ardmel FAQ
Do you work with small brands or only large factories?
We work with brands and manufacturers of all sizes — from independent designers developing their first bonded garment to large-scale factories scaling production. Our services are tailored to your stage and volume.
Where are you based and do you work internationally?
We are based in Biyagama EPZ, Sri Lanka. We work with clients across Europe, North America, Asia, Canada and Australia, offering remote technical support and on-site collaboration where required.
What is the typical turnaround time for a project?
Turnaround depends on project complexity. Prototype development typically takes 2–6 weeks. Sample-to-bulk transformation varies by volume and garment type. We provide a clear timeline after the initial consultation.
Can ultrasonic bonding be combined with seam sealing?
Yes. For maximum waterproofing performance, ultrasonic-welded seams can additionally be seam-sealed with thermoplastic tape. This hybrid approach is used in high-specification outerwear and specialist technical garments.
Bonding & technology FAQ
What PUR technologies do you work with?
We specialise in hot-melt adhesive bonding, seam sealing (taped and bonded), ultrasonic welding, and laser cutting. We work with both stitch-free and hybrid construction methods depending on the garment’s performance requirements.
What materials and fabrics do you support?
We work with a wide range of performance fabrics including nylon, polyester, spandex blends, TPU laminates, softshell, and stretch wovens. Material compatibility is assessed during the development phase to ensure optimal bonding performance.
Can you help if bonding is peeling or failing in production?
Yes — troubleshooting production bonding issues is one of our core services. We diagnose root causes such as parameter mismatches, tape incompatibility, or machine calibration issues and provide corrective solutions.
Do you supply adhesives and seam tapes as well?
Yes. Through Ardmel Manufacturing Sri Lanka, we produce seam tapes and adhesives, and can advise on the right product for your specific garment and bonding process.
Machine solutions FAQ
Do you supply bonding and seam sealing machines?
Yes. We offer a range of bonding presses, seam sealing machines, ultrasonic systems, laydown machines, and laser cutting equipment, along with setup, calibration, and ongoing support.
Can you service or repair our existing machines?
Yes, We provide service, repairs, upgrades, spare parts, and technical support for Ardmel machines, ensuring maximum performance, reliability, and long-term productivity. For machinery from other manufacturers, we do not provide repair or maintenance services. However, we are always open to collaborating with customers to enhance their overall production performance. Through our expertise in bonding applications, process optimization, and tape solutions, we can help improve product quality, production efficiency, and manufacturing consistency regardless of the machine brand in use.
Do you offer operator training for our factory team?
Absolutely. We run structured training programmes covering machine operation, bonding process optimisation, maintenance, and fault diagnosis — tailored to your team’s current skill level and equipment.
Are your machines CE certified?
Yes. Our machines are CE certified, confirming they meet international safety and quality standards. Our Ultrasonic Sewing Machine has also received the Queen’s Award for Innovation.
Product development FAQ
Can you develop a garment from just a concept or sketch?
Yes. We work from concept briefs, mood boards, reference garments, or basic sketches and develop them through design, pattern creation, material selection, and prototype production.
What does your prototype development process involve?
Our prototype process covers concept design, bonding mock-up creation, material and trim selection, CAD pattern development, construction, fit trials, and performance testing — iterating until the garment meets your brief.
Can you enhance an existing tech pack with bonding specifications?
Yes. If you already have a tech pack, we can review it and add detailed bonding construction notes, seam type specifications, adhesive recommendations, and machine parameter guidance.
Do you help transition approved samples into bulk production?
Yes — sample-to-bulk transformation is one of our key services. We refine bonding processes, validate materials and machine settings, and ensure consistent product quality and performance at volume.
Industries & garment types FAQ
What industries and garment types do you support?
We support activewear, outerwear, intimates, workwear, fashion apparel, and technical textiles including medical, automotive, and industrial applications.
Can you work on waterproof or weatherproof garments?
Yes. Waterproof and weatherproof outerwear is a core specialisation. We apply seam sealing and bonding techniques to ensure fully taped, waterproof, and breathable constructions for extreme condition use.
Do you work on intimate apparel and seamless garments?
Yes. We specialise in bonded intimate apparel — delivering seamless, lightweight constructions with superior comfort, stretch, and a second-skin feel using advanced adhesive bonding technologies.
Can you help with non-apparel textile applications?
Yes. Our ultrasonic and adhesive bonding technologies are also applied in automotive textiles, medical textiles, industrial fabrics, and other specialty technical applications.
Innovation lab FAQ
What is the Ardmel Innovation Lab?
The Innovation Lab is our dedicated R&D space where we explore new bonding techniques, experimental materials, and novel construction methods. Clients can collaborate with us to develop genuinely new garment solutions.
Can I bring a new product concept to the Innovation Lab?
Absolutely. We welcome brand partners who want to explore new ideas. We’ll run feasibility trials, prototype testing, and rapid iteration to assess whether the concept is technically and commercially viable.
Is the Innovation Lab only for large clients?
No. We work with innovative clients at any scale. If your concept is compelling and technically interesting, we’re open to collaborating regardless of your company size or current production volume.
