Seam sealing
For high-performance & Waterproof garments
We develop, test, and implement seam sealing solutions that make garments waterproof, windproof, and durable — across fully-taped, critically-taped, and bonded constructions.
Keeping water out, performance in
Seam sealing is the process of applying a thermoplastic tape or adhesive over stitched or bonded seams to prevent water, wind, and contaminants from penetrating the garment. The right sealing method depends on the garment’s end-use, fabric type, and performance standard required.
Fully taped seams
Every seam is sealed with thermoplastic tape, providing maximum waterproofing. Used in outerwear, hardshell jackets, and specialist protective clothing.
Critically taped seams
Only high-exposure seams shoulders, back yokes, underarms are sealed. A cost-effective approach for mid-layer and softshell garments.
Ultrasonic and seam sealing
The tape is bonded over the ultrasonic-welded seam, creating a clean and professional finish. This method is ideal for seamless, stitch-free garment constructions, particularly in active wear, intimates, and performance apparel applications.
Process development
We develop and validate the exact tape, temperature, pressure, and speed parameters for your specific fabric and construction — then document it in an SOP for your factory.
From initial sample to bulk production
Fabric assessment
Tape selection
We recommend the right tape type single-layer, three-layer, hot-melt, or polyurethane based on performance requirements.
Machine setup
We can optimize your seam sealing machine settings by precisely adjusting heat, speed, and pressure to match your fabric.
Trial & testing
We run seam strength, waterproofness, and wash durability tests — iterating until results meet your standard.
SOP & bulk handover
We document all parameters in a production SOP and support the handover to your factory team.

Seam sealing FAQ
What's the difference between fully taped and critically taped?
Fully taped means every single seam in the garment is sealed — maximum waterproofing for extreme weather use. Critically taped means only the most exposed seams are sealed, reducing cost while maintaining adequate weather resistance for mid-layer or casual outerwear.
Which tape type do I need for my fabric?
Tape selection depends on your fabric’s laminate type (2L, 2.5L, 3L), coating chemistry, and wash performance requirement. We assess your fabric and recommend the correct tape — whether single-layer, Two layer, three-layer or specialist seam sealing tape.
Do you help with the customer developments and bulk production as well?
Yes—we support both development and bulk production.
More precisely, we assist our customers from the early development stage (fabric testing, tape selection, process setup, and sample trials) all the way through to bulk production support. This includes machine setup, parameter optimization, operator training, and troubleshooting during production to ensure consistent quality and efficiency.
Do you supply the seam sealing tapes as well?
Yes. Through Ardmel Manufacturing Sri Lanka, we produce and supply and customize the seam tapes and can recommend the correct product for your construction. We also supply tapes for use with third-party machines.
Do you supply the seam sealing machine as well?
Yes, we manufacture seam sealing machines and all related attachments for applications such as jackets, boots, air balloons, and gloves. We can also customize the machines according to your specific requirements.
